Washington, United States – US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will visit the White House on Monday.
This comes after Trump’s summit in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump, in a post on Truth Social, said: “If all goes well, we will schedule a meeting with President Putin”.
He added, “The best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to move directly towards a peace agreement. It should end the war, and not just a ceasefire agreement”.
The US President said on the Truth Social platform: I had a phone call late at night with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a number of European leaders.
He added, “Everyone agreed that the best way to end the horrific war between Russia and Ukraine is to reach a peace agreement directly. This should end the war instead of just a ceasefire agreement, which will often not last”.
Comprehensive agreement.. No temporary suspension
The Axios news website reported earlier that Trump told Zelensky and NATO leaders that Putin does not want a temporary ceasefire. He prefers a comprehensive agreement to end the war.
The website added, “Trump said he believes a quick peace deal is better than a ceasefire”.
An Axios correspondent, citing an informed source, reported that the call between Trump, Zelensky and NATO leaders “was difficult”.
He pointed out that Trump spoke for more than an hour and a half with Zelensky and European leaders. He aimed to inform them of the details of his meeting with Putin.
Zelensky said earlier on Saturday that Kiev is ready for constructive cooperation. He supports holding a tripartite summit between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia.
“Ukraine affirms its readiness to work as hard as possible to achieve peace,” Zelensky wrote on the X platform. He added: “We support President Trump’s proposal to hold a tripartite meeting between Ukraine, the United States and Russia”.
