Latakia, Syria – Agencies Fires are still raging in some areas of the Hama countryside for the fourth day in a row. Meanwhile, firefighting teams continue their efforts to control them.

Sources reported that the winds obstructed firefighting efforts in some areas in the Hama countryside. This was especially true in the vicinity of the village of Naour Jurin in the western Hama countryside.

The sources added that residents are working to open roads and fire lines. Their aim is to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to residential areas.

Extinguish 80% of the fire

In Latakia, it was announced that 80% control had been achieved over the fires that broke out in the Kassab area in the northern Latakia countryside.

Firefighting efforts are still ongoing. Cooling and monitoring of the remaining sites in the Kassab and Shajar crossing areas and the Chalma junction are currently underway.

Since the beginning of August, Latakia has witnessed a series of widespread fires. These fires affected forests and woodlands in various areas, most notably in Kassab, Jabal al-Akrad, and al-Haffa.

The fires caused significant damage to vegetation, in some cases reaching homes and agricultural lands.

A series of fires broke out on the night of August 12 in several locations in the western Hama countryside.
