As-Suwayda, Syria – Agencies Intermittent clashes broke out on Saturday in the countryside of As-Suwayda, southern Syria, despite the relative calm there.

Sources said that confrontations took place between local gunmen and members of the Internal Security Forces.

She added that the clashes took place on ancient axes, Qarasa and Dama in the Suwayda countryside.

A call for reconciliation

This came after the Governor of Sweida, Mustafa Al-Bakour, called yesterday, Friday, for reconciliation between the tribes and the people of the governorate, and to give priority to the language of reason, in order to strengthen civil peace.

He also stressed the importance of maintaining reconciliation among the people of the region, giving priority to reason, and rejecting strife.

It is noteworthy that As-Suwayda Governorate witnessed clashes and confrontations that lasted for a week on July 13 between Druze fighters and Bedouin tribes.

Government security forces intervened to stop the confrontations between the two sides. While about 200,000 were displaced as a result of the conflict, according to United Nations estimates.

But since July 19, the governorate has witnessed a ceasefire following bloody clashes that left hundreds dead.
