Idlib, Syria – The Syrian Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that 4 people were killed and 5 people were injured. This is a preliminary toll of an explosion that occurred in Idlib Governorate.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Thursday that a powerful explosion occurred in a weapons and ammunition depot. It was on the western side of the city of Idlib, northwestern Syria, resulting in thick columns of smoke rising into the sky of the region.
According to initial information, the explosion resulted in a number of civilian deaths and injuries. However, its causes or who controls the targeted warehouse are not yet clear.
The incident comes amid escalating security tension in Idlib. The region has witnessed several similar explosions in weapons depots in recent months. Some were the result of shelling of unknown origin, and others due to technical errors or unsafe storage of ammunition.
