Washington, United States – US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he intends to impose 100 percent tariffs on imported semiconductors, but he did not set a timetable for imposing these new tariffs.

In a statement to reporters at the White House, Trump said: “We will impose very large tariffs on chips and semiconductors”, adding that the percentage will be “one hundred percent.” He also said: “But the good news for companies like Apple is that if you build in the United States or commit to building in the United States, there will be no fees.” In other words, we will not charge you fees”.

The US President considered that this policy prompted “many companies to leave many places and come to the United States”.

Trump did not clarify when this new tariff would take effect.
