London, England – In the early hours of August 31, 1888, a gruesome crime unfolded in the Whitechapel area of East London, becoming the starting point for one of history’s most famous criminal mysteries.

The body of Mary Ann Nicholls was discovered in Buck Row.

Nichols, known as “Polly,” lived in difficult social and economic circumstances

and moved between various workhouses in East London.

Her life then ended in one of the most perplexing crimes in British history.

Investigating the circumstances of the crime

Her body was discovered by a passerby early in the morning,

before police arrived and began investigating the circumstances of the crime.

The examination revealed fatal stab wounds, sending shockwaves through the community.

At the time, police were unaware they were dealing with a serial killer.

However, a series of other murders of women in the area in the following weeks led investigators to connect the dots.

Thus, the name “Jack the Ripper” gradually emerged in connection with one of the most notorious criminal cases of all time.

The beginning of a series of crimes

Mary Ann Nicholls became the first of the five victims historically known as the “Traditional Five” of Jack the Ripper,

along with Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes, and Mary Jane Kelly.

Despite more than a century having passed since the Whitechapel murders,

the investigation has not been able to definitively identify the killer.

As a result, the identity of Jack the Ripper, the motives behind his crimes,

and the circumstances surrounding them remain an open mystery to this day.

Thus, the murder of Mary Ann Nicholls transformed from a mysterious street killing

in London into the beginning of a series of crimes that created one of the most famous criminal legends.

Its details continue to fascinate historians, researchers, and mystery enthusiasts to this day.
