Luxor, Egypt – Nearly 226 years after its discovery.. On Saturday, the historic city of Luxor in Upper Egypt will witness the opening of a royal cemetery.

The cemetery will be opened by the Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Sherif Fathi. This event will take place in the presence of senior officials in Luxor Governorate and the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquities.

It belongs to King Amenhotep III.

It is located in the Valley of the Kings area. This area is rich in dozens of tombs carved for the kings of ancient Egypt in the Theban Necropolis, west of Luxor.

According to sources in the Luxor and Upper Egypt archaeological area, the tomb, which was discovered in 1799, took 20 years to restore. It is now prepared to receive visitors.

All work was also carried out with the support of UNESCO and the Japanese government.

The tomb was discovered by the Frenchmen Prosper Goulois and Édouard de Villiers-de-Terrages.

But there is evidence that the cemetery was previously known. It was mentioned in the blogs of British traveler William George Brown.

The cemetery protection project included careful and architectural restoration work, and the installation of environmental control devices.

In addition to collecting and restoring many archaeological artifacts found inside the cemetery.
