Kuwait – The official spokesperson for the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense announced this morning, Sunday, that the Air Defense Forces successfully intercepted a number of hostile aerial targets “efficiently and effectively.” He affirmed the armed forces’ complete readiness to deal with any threat to the country’s sovereignty and security.

Successful interception in the south of the country

In an official statement, the spokesperson explained that monitoring systems detected and intercepted hostile targets within the operational area in the southern region of the country. The statement indicated that the interception was successful, with no casualties or material damage reported. It also noted that air defense units handled the situation according to established protocols. This reflects the advanced technical capabilities and high level of combat readiness of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces under the current regional circumstances.

Diplomatic escalation and official protest

Alongside the military action, the diplomatic track witnessed a notable escalation, with the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoning the Iranian ambassador to the country, Mohammad Tutunji, on Saturday. The ministry expressed its strong condemnation of the Iranian attacks targeting Kuwaiti territory using ballistic missiles and drones. In its statement, the ministry emphasized that targeting civilian facilities, particularly Kuwait International Airport, constitutes a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, which prohibits endangering civilians and vital infrastructure. It also described the incident as “blatant aggression.”

The right to self-defense

Kuwait concluded its statement by affirming its inherent right to defend itself and its resources, based on Article 51 of the UN Charter. Kuwaiti authorities emphasized that they reserve the full right to take all necessary precautionary and political measures they deem appropriate to protect their sovereignty and national security, given the ongoing tensions and escalating military operations in the region.
