Tbilisi, Georgia – Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy achieved a historic achievement by retaining the title of the American Masters Championship, the first major championship in golf this season, after winning the 90th edition, which concluded at dawn on Monday, at Augusta National Stadium in the state of Georgia. To advance to second place in the “Race to Dubai” standings in the “DB World” world tour.
McIlroy, who has won the Race to Dubai seven times, continued to maintain his strong global presence, finishing with 12 under par. To collect 1665 points and raise his total score this season to 1934 points, enhancing his chances of competing for the title for the eighth time.
McIlroy became the fourth player to retain the title, after Tiger Woods, Jack Nicholas and Sir Nick Faldo. He came behind the American leader Patrick Reed, who leads the standings with 2491 points, after winning the “Hero Dubai Desert Classic” championship and coming in twelfth place in the Masters championship.
McIlroy raised his tally to six major championship titles, after previously winning the PGA Championship in 2012 and 2014, the US Open in 2011, and the British Open in 2014. He also received the “Green Jacket” for the second time in a row, in a historical tradition dating back to 1949, when he received it from Fred Ridley, president of Augusta Club.
The Masters is the fifteenth leg of the DB World Tour season, and the third leg of the Asian Series. All eyes will be on the Volvo China Open from April 23 to 26.
The “Race to Dubai” season is scheduled to witness the holding of at least 42 championships in 25 countries. The UAE will host the final qualifiers, with the top 70 players qualifying for the Abu Dhabi Yas Links Championship from November 5 to 8, 2026. Then the top 50 players to the DB World Tour Championship at Jumeirah Real Estate Golf Club from November 12 to 15, 2026.
