Dubai, UAE – Dubai Municipality has announced the launch of an advanced beach safety system that utilizes smart rescue technologies, combining next-generation marine rescue robots and drones designed for above-water rescue. This is the first initiative of its kind in the region and further reinforces Dubai’s position as a leading city in implementing smart beach safety concepts.
Advanced marine rescue robot
The marine rescue robot is the cornerstone of this system, being the first of its kind in the Middle East. The robot functions as a remotely controlled rescue buoy. It is self-propelled and boasts a speed up to five times faster than traditional swimming rescues. Its operational range is approximately one kilometer within line of sight, while its pulling capacity reaches 500 kilograms.
The robot is designed to operate efficiently in various marine conditions. This enables rescue teams to reach emergency situations quickly and minimizes physical risks during the initial stages of rescue operations.
Drones to support rescue operations
This technology is complemented by the introduction of a maritime rescue aircraft that acts as a “flying lifebuoy.” The aircraft can rapidly deploy over the water and land directly on the sea surface to provide immediate support to people in distress.
The aircraft is also equipped with a live-streaming camera. This camera transmits real-time images to rescue teams, enabling them to quickly detect incidents and accurately assess risks. This, in turn, improves field coordination among emergency response teams.
Integrated beach safety system
The new technologies operate within an integrated safety system that includes trained rescue teams, continuous monitoring systems, and centralized control centers. This enhances the ability to respond quickly across vast coastal areas, especially in critical or time-sensitive situations.
Badr Anwahi stated that adopting these technologies reflects a proactive approach that leverages advanced technology to enhance public safety. He emphasized that integrating the marine rescue robot with dedicated rescue aircraft represents a significant leap forward in providing beach safety services.
Dubai Municipality oversees the management of the emirate’s public beaches and waterways, including Jumeirah, Al Mamzar, and Umm Suqeim beaches. These destinations are managed by qualified rescue teams and advanced monitoring systems to ensure a safe beach environment. This enhances the quality of life and aligns with the emirate’s urban development aspirations.
