Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE Ministry of Defense announced today, Sunday, March 8, 2026, that its air defense forces successfully thwarted a large-scale attack targeting the country’s sovereignty and security. In detail, the defense systems detected 17 ballistic missiles. Sixteen were successfully destroyed, while one fell into the sea. The attack also involved 117 drones. One hundred and thirty-three were intercepted, while four crashed within UAE territory.

Highlights

  • Human losses and demographic diversity
  • Readiness and a firm response

Results of countering the attacks since their beginning

These developments come amidst an ongoing confrontation that began with Iran’s blatant aggression. Official statistics also revealed the scale of the UAE’s formidable defense effort to protect its airspace.

According to the Ministry’s data, a total of:

221 ballistic missiles out of 238 launched (15 fell into the sea and only 2 landed on land).

1,342 drones out of 1,422 (80 of which landed within the country’s territory).

8 cruise missiles were destroyed with high precision.

Human losses and demographic diversity

These brutal attacks resulted in tragic loss of life. Four residents of Pakistani, Nepalese, and Bangladeshi nationalities were killed. The attacks also left 112 people with injuries ranging from moderate to minor, including citizens and residents of various nationalities (such as Egyptian, Sudanese, Indian, Yemeni, and Lebanese). This reflects the aggression’s targeting of the diverse social fabric that the UAE embraces.

Readiness and a firm response

The Ministry of Defense reaffirmed its high state of readiness to address any future threats. It emphasized its commitment to resolutely countering any attempts to undermine the nation’s security and stability. The statement affirmed the Armed Forces’ dedication to safeguarding national sovereignty and protecting the interests and resources of the people under all circumstances.

These figures demonstrate the exceptional efficiency of the UAE’s air defense systems. These systems have successfully neutralized the vast majority of complex threats, transforming the nation’s airspace into an impenetrable barrier against repeated attempts to destabilize regional security.
