Abu Dhabi, UAE – The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the attempted targeting of Turkish territory with a ballistic missile, likely Iranian. Moreover, it considered this act a “serious attack that threatens regional security and stability.”
A flagrant violation of international law
The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed in an official statement that any targeting of brotherly or friendly nations constitutes a flagrant violation of international law. Additionally, it stated that such actions are a threat to peace and security in the region.
It also stressed the need for restraint and adherence to diplomatic channels to avoid escalation, especially within the UAE and surrounding countries.
The statement added that the UAE is closely monitoring developments. It also called on the international community to take urgent steps to ensure the protection of countries from any similar threats.
The statement also affirmed the UAE’s support for Ankara in protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Concern over the expansion of attacks
This Emirati move comes amid escalating tensions in the region, following a series of Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting several Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE.
Experts believe that the Gulf states’ condemnations of Iran’s repeated threats reflect growing concern about the expansion of these attacks, particularly affecting the UAE and its neighbors.
Furthermore, they believe that these recent threats may prompt the international community to increase diplomatic and military pressure on Tehran. This pressure would aim to halt such actions that threaten the security of the UAE.
