Munich, Germany – Massad Boulos, senior advisor to US President Donald Trump on Arab and African affairs, affirmed the depth of the strategic partnership between Washington and Abu Dhabi. He also stressed that joint coordination is a fundamental pillar for achieving stability and prosperity in the Middle East region.
Strategic partnership with the UAE
On the sidelines of his participation in the Munich Security Conference, Paulus revealed that he had held a “productive” meeting with the UAE Minister of State, Lana Nusseibeh. Paulus stated that continued consultation and joint work between the United States and the UAE on various regional issues “remains crucial for the security and stability of the region.”
Sudan: A “four-way” move to impose peace
On the Sudanese file, the US president’s advisor announced that Washington is leading intensive diplomatic efforts in cooperation with the UAE, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia, within a four-party mechanism aimed at ending the bloody conflict that has plagued Sudan since 2013. According to Pauls, the initiative’s key points include working to ensure a transition to a comprehensive civilian government that represents all segments of the Sudanese people. He added that tangible progress has been made in the four-party mechanism’s efforts to reach a lasting peace agreement. He also urged the warring parties in Sudan to engage positively with the proposed initiatives to end the humanitarian suffering.
Paul’s remarks reflect the foreign policy of the Trump administration in its second term, which relies on “diplomacy based on strong partnerships” with influential regional powers.
Observers believe that Washington’s involvement in the Quartet mechanism (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and the US) gives a strong boost to efforts to solidify the ceasefire. It also contributes to overcoming the challenges on the ground that are hindering a final settlement in Sudan.
