Abu Dhabi, UAE – The organizing committee of the Masters Games – Abu Dhabi 2026 announced the start of competitions, Saturday, in 20 sports.
Among them are two traditional sports: sailing boats and «taba».
This will take place in various designated locations, including Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre «ADNEC», Al Hudayriyat Island, Cricket Stadium, Space 24, and others.
The competitions began with a long swim on Al-Hudairiyat Island, with a large participation of competitors.
Abdullah Al Wahaibi, Chief Sports Officer of the Organizing Committee, confirmed during the media briefing held at ADNEC that registration is still open for running competitions only, while registration has closed for some games. He noted that some games were completed within a single day, with athletics recording the highest participation rate.
Al Wahaibi pointed out that 60% of the participating athletes are from within the Emirates, citizens and residents, and 40% are from outside it, in all sports included in the current edition.
He explained that the age group from 30 to 40 years is the most participating.
He pointed out that a 91-year-old, three-month-old Mongolian player, the oldest in the championship, is participating, competing in the 100-meter running race.
He explained that the results of the competitions are calculated at the level of the participating individuals and teams, not the countries.
This is in line with the objectives of the Masters Games, which allow players to represent themselves and their teams.
He also pointed out that community events dedicated to families of all ages are being organized at both the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre «ADNEC» and Al Hudayriyat Island.
