New York, United States – The UAE confirmed that its goal in participating in the Arab coalition to support legitimacy was to protect Yemen and its people from Houthi aggression, combat terrorism, and enhance Yemen’s security, stability, and sovereignty.
As well as promoting regional and international peace and security.
She also called for redoubling efforts to achieve peace, security and stability in Yemen and the region.
The UAE said in a statement before the UN Security Council, delivered by Ambassador Mohammed Abu Shehab, the country’s permanent representative to the United Nations, that its participation in the Arab coalition to support legitimacy in Yemen led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia came at the official request of the Yemeni government in 2015.
Over the past decade, it has made significant contributions, in cooperation with Yemeni partners and the coalition, to the security and stability of Yemen and the region.
It consisted of liberating Aden, expelling the terrorist organization «Al-Qaeda» from the city of Mukalla, securing the western coast of Yemen, and defending Ma’rib Governorate.
The statement stressed that the UAE’s goals were clear in protecting Yemen and its people from Houthi aggression, combating terrorism, and enhancing Yemen’s security, stability and sovereignty.
As well as promoting regional and international peace and security.
The statement said: “This was achieved with great sacrifices from the UAE, as our brave soldiers sacrificed their lives, and the Houthis carried out a bloody terrorist attack on our land”.
The statement stressed that the UAE sought to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.
It provided more than $8 billion in humanitarian and development aid to support the urgent needs of the Yemeni people.
It also provided support to enable the legitimate Yemeni government to provide basic services.
The statement said: “On December 30, the United Arab Emirates decided to withdraw all its remaining military personnel from Yemen, and this withdrawal has now been completed”. While our operations in Yemen have ended, our solidarity with the Yemeni people remains as firm as ever, in their quest for stability, security and prosperity.
He added: “At this critical stage for Yemen, the Security Council must not be satisfied with an approach to managing this conflict instead of resolving it. It is time to redouble efforts in pursuit of peace, security and stability in Yemen and the region”.
