New York, United States – The UAE affirmed its firm commitment to building sustainable peace globally, looking forward to working with all partners in this common endeavor.
She noted that the real difficulty lies not in designing new frameworks, but in sustaining long-term efforts to address the root causes of the conflict.
The UAE said in a statement before the Security Council delivered by Fatima Yousef, Acting Deputy Permanent Representative of the country’s mission to the United Nations, about promoting new models for peacebuilding: “Today’s discussion is based on the momentum of the recently adopted dual resolution on reviewing the peacebuilding structure, which Egypt and Slovenia facilitated its implementation”.
The statement added that this process reaffirmed that the United Nations already possesses a comprehensive peacebuilding structure, and the real difficulty now does not lie in designing new frameworks.
Rather, it is about sustaining long-term efforts to address the root causes of conflict.
The statement pointed out the need for this to include continuing to promote the agendas of women, peace and security, and youth, peace and security.
As two essential tools for peacebuilding.
The statement indicated that Security Council Resolution No. 2686 on Tolerance, Peace and Security, which the UAE co-drafted with the United Kingdom in 2023, responds to this challenge by recognizing that hate speech and extremism, and associated forms of intolerance, are driving factors of conflict.
This report also highlights the pivotal role of the Peacebuilding Commission in addressing these root causes through the exchange of peacebuilding approaches.
Meanwhile, terrorism in multiple regions, including West Africa, the Sahel, and the Horn of Africa, continues to complicate peacebuilding and prevention efforts.
In this context, the statement stressed that the conflict is affected by multiple and overlapping factors.
Therefore, prevention is not subject to simple solutions, as the role of the United Nations is to support integrated and context-sensitive national approaches.
In addition to strengthening it through international partnership.
The statement explained that tolerance in the UAE is considered a practical dimension of governance.
Policies that promote the inclusion, peaceful coexistence and full, equal and effective participation of women and youth in public life are an integral part of social cohesion.
