Dubai, UAE – His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has appointed Maqsoud Cruz as the Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Countering Extremism and Terrorism. This appointment underscores the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its active role in international efforts to counter extremist ideology.
Promoting the values of tolerance and moderation
This appointment comes as part of the UAE’s strategy to consolidate the values of tolerance, coexistence, and moderation. It also aims to criminalize all forms of discrimination and promote a culture of mutual respect, which are fundamental pillars in combating hate speech and terrorism.
Tasks of the new envoy
Maqsoud Kruse will undertake vital tasks including building bridges of cooperation with countries and organizations to address common threats. He will also participate in relevant regional and international conferences and meetings. Furthermore, he will monitor the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions and the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.
