Brussels, Belgium – Cypriot President Nicos Christodoulides stressed the importance of strengthening relations with the United Arab Emirates.
He pointed out that the agreements recently concluded by Nicosia with the UAE and a number of friendly countries constitute a fundamental pillar of the comprehensive strategy adopted by his country to enhance its geopolitical role regionally and internationally.
Christodoulides said that his government, which as of Thursday holds the rotating presidency of the European Union for a period of six months, is moving forward with implementing an integrated strategy aimed at linking foreign policy directly to improving the living conditions of citizens.
Especially in the areas of energy and water, which contributes to strengthening the state’s internal and external strengths and enabling it to face future challenges.
In this context, the Cypriot President announced that four Cypriot ministers will soon travel to the UAE.
This is to finalize strategic cooperation agreements in the fields of water and energy.
It includes water desalination projects, the participation of Emirati companies in the Cyprus exclusive economic zone and the energy sector.
He noted that the distinguished relations with Abu Dhabi have already contributed to addressing the water challenges facing Cyprus in 2025.
By providing water desalination units at no cost, which has had a positive impact on water security in the country.
Christodoulides stressed that Cyprus is working to consolidate its position as a link between the Middle East and Europe.
