Abu Dhabi, UAE – Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) company has announced a strategic expansion project for its subsidiary Lichtemetall in Germany,
where the new facility near Hanover will increase recycling operations by more than six times.
This move is expected to increase scrap sorting capacity by approximately 110,000 tons per year,
and smelting and casting capacity by 153,000 tons.
This will involve investments of up to $170 million, with production expected to begin in 2028.
Technological leadership and integrated system
In a related context, the importance of the new facility is highlighted
by its status as one of the world’s first projects.
Which combines in one location advanced scrap sorting systems
and salt recovery technologies from waste.
Therefore, this project represents a technological leap for Lichtmetal,
Which currently has a capacity of only about 30,000 tons per year.
This enhances production efficiency and reduces the environmental impact of industrial processes.
Global expansion from the United States to the UAE
Furthermore, this announcement comes as part of a global expansion strategy;
the company also operates the Spectro Always plant in Minnesota, USA.
It is currently undergoing a second phase of expansion to increase
its capacity to 200,000 tons per year by 2027.
Simultaneously, the company is nearing completion of the largest aluminum recycling plant in the UAE.
This underscores its ambition to lead the secondary aluminum sector globally.
Sustainability and keeping pace with the requirements of European industry
For his part, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, the company’s CEO,
confirmed that the production of high-quality aluminum from post-consumer scrap is a priority.
It is a strategic engine for meeting the demands of the automotive and aviation sectors in Europe.
Therefore, the new facility will rely on energy-efficient furnaces
that will be capable of operating on hydrogen in the future.
In addition to using X-ray and laser technologies to sort alloys with extreme precision,
This contributes to supporting Europe’s journey towards a more sustainable future.
The importance of the European market and strategic partnership
In conclusion, Europe remains the third largest market for recycled aluminum globally.
Given that the European automotive sector is the largest consumer of solar-powered “Celesteal” aluminum,
This expansion strengthens the company’s position as a major supplier.
Therefore, the project not only increases production, but also achieves a complete recycling of resources.
By reusing salts and converting solid waste into materials used in cement manufacturing.
