In cooperation with NASA.. The Emirates Meteor Monitoring Network documents the "Dragon" shower

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The Emirates Meteor and Meteor Network “UACN”, affiliated with the International Astronomy Center, has achieved a new scientific achievement in documenting remarkable meteor shower activity.

This is a step that reflects the country’s leadership in the field of astronomical observation and the strengthening of international scientific cooperation.

The announcement of this observation came in an official cable issued by the International Astronomical Union “IAU”. It was prepared by Dr. Peter Jeniskins from the “AMES” Center of the US space agency “NASA”, and Engineer Mohammed Odeh, Director of the International Astronomy Center in Abu Dhabi.

The cable explained that the UAE Meteor and Meteor Network was able to detect a short peak of the “Dragon” meteor shower.

Named after the “Dragon” star cluster, on the evening of October 8.

This phenomenon accurately matched the predictions of an astronomer published in a scientific paper on October 3.

The cable indicated that the meteors that were observed were the result of dust grains that escaped from comet Giacobini Zener in 2012.

These fine particles remained floating in the comet’s orbit until they entered Earth in the same dust belt. This occurred on the evening of October 8.

Which led to the appearance of that distinctive meteor shower.

The importance of these accurate astronomical observations

The importance of these accurate astronomical observations lies in the fact that they provide scientists with valuable information. This information is about the distribution of dust grains in the solar system.

This contributes to understanding the nature of the comets that cause them. It helps in predicting their paths and assessing the possibility of them posing a threat to Earth.

Monitoring this data early also allows researchers to take scientific measures. These measures can reduce potential damage if large comets approach the planet.

This achievement confirms the advanced position that the UAE has reached in the field of astronomy and space sciences.

In addition to its ability to conduct accurate scientific observations in cooperation with prestigious international institutions such as NASA.

This event also embodies the country’s ambitious vision. It aims to be one of the leading countries in observing the sky and understanding cosmic phenomena.

This strengthens its presence in the international scientific community. It also opens the way for the next generation of researchers to participate in pioneering global research projects.
