Dubai, UAE – The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) announced that the emirate received 9.88 million international visitors between January 1 and June 30, 2025. This achievement reflects Dubai’s continued growth as a global tourism hub and signals its strong recovery and expansion following recent global challenges.

Strong Year-on-Year Growth

Dubai’s tourism sector continues to outperform expectations. The first half of 2025 recorded higher visitor numbers than the same period in 2024 and even exceeded the total for all of 2023. Key comparisons include:

  • 18.72 million visitors in 2024, a 9% increase compared to 2023
  • 17.15 million visitors in 2023
  • 5.31 million visitors in Q1 2025, up 3% from Q1 2024
  • 3.82 million visitors in January–February 2025, a 4% year-on-year increase

These figures underscore Dubai’s consistent upward trend and resilience in the global tourism sector.

Rising Among Global Tourism Cities

Dubai ranked 7th worldwide among international tourism destinations in 2024, according to Euromonitor. With nearly 10 million visitors already recorded in the first six months of 2025, the city is on course to climb even higher — potentially reaching the top three globally by year-end. It is now ahead of cities such as Paris and Kuala Lumpur, and competing closely with global leaders like Bangkok, Istanbul, and London.

Diverse International Source Markets

Dubai’s appeal continues to attract travelers from a wide range of regions. In the first quarter of 2025, the visitor share by region included:

  • CIS and Eastern Europe: 17%
  • Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC): 15%
  • South Asia: 14%
  • Middle East and North Africa (MENA): 12%

India remains Dubai’s largest single source market, followed by Saudi Arabia, Russia, the United Kingdom, and Germany. These figures reflect strong travel connections, visa facilitation, and targeted marketing campaigns in those countries.

Key Factors Behind Dubai’s Appeal

Dubai’s continued tourism success is attributed to several strategic advantages:

  • Its geographic location, acting as a hub between Asia, Europe, and Africa
  • A highly developed hospitality sector, offering more than 154,000 hotel rooms across over 830 properties
  • A vibrant year-round calendar of events, exhibitions, and festivals
  • Streamlined visa processes, smart travel solutions, and seamless airport connectivity
  • A wide variety of tourism offerings — including luxury shopping, cultural heritage, desert adventures, beaches, and world-class entertainment

These elements combine to make Dubai a preferred destination for both leisure and business travelers.

Economic Contribution

Tourism remains a key pillar of Dubai’s economy. It contributes approximately 12% of the emirate’s GDP and supports over 570,000 jobs in hospitality, retail, and service industries. The sustained growth in visitor numbers provides a strong boost to multiple economic sectors.

Expectations for the Second Half of 2025

With major events such as Dubai Summer Surprises, GITEX Global, and other international exhibitions on the horizon, officials expect Dubai to surpass 20 million international visitors by the end of 2025 — a potential record that would mark a historic year for the emirate.
