Damascus, Syria – The new Syrian currency officially entered circulation today. This move is part of a package of measures aimed at regulating the money market and improving the efficiency of financial transactions within the country.
The Central Bank of Syria announced that the new currency denomination is part of a plan to modernize the circulating currency. It also aims to reduce the wear and tear on older banknotes and strengthen confidence in the national currency. The new currency is designed to facilitate everyday transactions for citizens and institutions.
The bank explained that the new currency boasts advanced technical and security features. These features contribute to combating counterfeiting and comply with established standards for banknote printing. It confirmed that its circulation will be gradual, running parallel to the existing denominations, without the immediate cancellation of the old currency.
Economic officials indicated that this move is primarily regulatory in nature and does not necessarily imply a direct change in monetary policy or the exchange rate. However, it represents an attempt to regulate the market and improve the management of the money supply.
Official authorities urged citizens to use the new currency normally and to adhere to instructions issued by banks. They confirmed that all denominations currently in circulation remain legal tender and valid until further notice.
