Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will participate via video conference on Wednesday in a historic event marking the installation of the reactor pressure vessel for the first nuclear power plant unit. This event is considered pivotal in the completion of the Dabaa nuclear power plant project.
The event will also include the signing of an order to purchase the nuclear fuel needed to operate the station.
It coincided with the annual Nuclear Energy Day
The official spokesperson for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that this event coincides with Egypt’s celebration of the fifth annual Nuclear Energy Day. This day is observed annually on November 19th.
This celebration commemorates the signing of the intergovernmental agreement between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Russian Federation for the construction and operation of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant. This occasion is considered a symbolic day marking the launch of Egypt’s peaceful nuclear program.
A manifestation of the depth of strategic relations
Ambassador El-Shenawy explained that the participation of President El-Sisi and the Russian President in this important event embodies the depth of the strategic relations between the two countries. This participation also represents a continuation of the fruitful bilateral cooperation through mega-projects that have left their clear mark on the development path, starting with the construction of the Aswan High Dam in the 1960s and culminating in the current national project to establish the El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.
The official spokesperson also indicated that the President is scheduled to deliver a speech on this occasion.
