Baghdad, Iraq – Iraqi authorities announced today the reopening of all its airspace and airports to civilian and international flights, following a period of partial closure due to security and logistical reasons. The Iraqi Ministry of Transport confirmed that the decision includes all international and regional airports, including Baghdad International Airport and the airports in Basra, Najaf, Erbil, and Sulaimaniyah. The ministry also indicated that civil aviation teams have completed all necessary preparations to ensure flight safety and the smooth flow of passengers.

A ministry official explained that the decision is part of the government’s efforts to boost economic and tourism activity. It also aims to restore confidence in the air transport sector after a period of challenges that impacted domestic and international air traffic. He stated that reopening the airspace represents a significant step in reintegrating Iraq into the global travel map. Furthermore, it allows Iraqi and foreign travelers greater freedom of movement and contributes to strengthening trade and tourism with neighboring and friendly countries.

Aviation experts have confirmed that the reopening of Iraqi airports at this time carries strategic significance. It demonstrates the government’s ability to manage security and logistical crises and create a stable environment for air transport. They noted that this decision will contribute to supporting the local economy, particularly in the transport, services, hotel, and restaurant sectors. This comes after a period of stagnation due to previous air travel restrictions.

In a regional context, analysts believe that Iraq’s full resumption of air traffic strengthens its role as a link between the Gulf states and Asian and European countries, opening the door to increased foreign investment and facilitating the movement of goods and services. Observers also cautioned about the need to maintain air safety and security standards. They recommended closely monitoring security updates in the region to ensure the continuity of flights without any disruptions.

Thus, the reopening of airspace represents a vital step in enhancing economic and security stability in Iraq. It also confirms the state’s ability to efficiently manage its vital infrastructure, while investors and tourists closely monitor developments to assess travel and investment opportunities in the country in the coming period.
