  • Coordination with national bodies
  • Towards a digitally secure Arab space

The League of Arab States has taken serious steps towards preparing the Arab Convention for the Protection of Personal Data.

As part of a growing regional trend toward enhancing cybersecurity and protecting individual privacy in the Arab world, this trend is in line with recent international legislation in this area.

A legislative step to protect Arab citizens

Sources at the League’s General Secretariat confirmed that the anticipated agreement aims to establish a unified legal framework for regulating the collection and processing of personal data. It also aims to facilitate its exchange among Arab countries.

This ensures users are protected from misuse or information leakage, especially with the significant expansion of electronic services and digital transformation.

Coordination with national bodies

Sources explained that the university is coordinating with ministries and agencies concerned with data protection in member states to exchange expertise and unify standards. This comes in preparation for presenting the first draft to an Arab ministerial meeting soon for formal adoption.

Towards a digitally secure Arab space

This move comes at a time when risks associated with cyber espionage and digital breaches are increasing.

This makes the agreement a strategic step toward building a secure Arab space. It aims to respect citizens’ privacy and keep pace with global developments in the field of data protection.
