Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – ADNEC Group, one of Madan’s companies, obtained the first international renewable energy certificate “I-REC”. This was from the Emirates Water and Electricity Company.

Highlights
  • “Commitment to sustainability”
  • “Zero carbon emissions”

This is in accordance with an accreditation issued by the Department of Energy – Abu Dhabi. It also aligns with the standards set by the International Tracking Standards Foundation I-TRACK.

Thus, it recorded a qualitative achievement in the field of sustainability.

This certification proves that ADNEC Abu Dhabi has relied entirely on clean energy to cover its operational needs since November 2024.

It hosted 166 events, including exhibitions, conferences and meetings, all of which were held using 100% renewable energy sources.

The certificate highlights that ADNEC Abu Dhabi consumed more than 13,700 megawatt-hours of electricity generated entirely from clean energy sources.

This reduced carbon dioxide emissions from power generation to zero.

This remarkable achievement was achieved thanks to cooperation with the Emirates Water and Electricity Company during 2024.

ADNEC Abu Dhabi has thus become the first and largest event center in the Middle East and North Africa region powered entirely by clean energy.

“Commitment to sustainability”

Hamid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of ADNEC Group, said that this achievement reflects ADNEC Group’s firm commitment to sustainability. Furthermore, it shows its keenness to adopt innovative and clean solutions in the events sector.

He expressed his pride in the group’s role in supporting the UAE’s vision towards a more sustainable future.

He stressed that the UAE will continue to work steadily to achieve the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2045.

“Zero carbon emissions”

It is noteworthy that ADNEC Group’s International Renewable Energy Certificate “I-REC” has undergone a verification and auditing process. This process was from the International Tracking Standards Foundation “I-TRACK”, the global leader in clean energy programs and sustainability initiatives.

The evaluation process included the consumption of ADNEC Abu Dhabi Energy Center, from November 2024 to April 30, 2025.

The total electricity used amounted to 13,703 megawatt-hours, generated entirely from renewable sources.

As a signatory to the Zero Carbon Initiative, ADNEC Group is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions across all its business operations. This commitment includes its event planning activities.

In line with the UAE’s national sustainability goals, ADNEC Group has set an ambitious goal. It aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2045.

This is five years ahead of the nationwide target date of 2050.

The group contributes to shaping a more sustainable future for the events sector in Abu Dhabi and the entire region.
