Having hosted the world’s biggest stars, Saudi Arabia is now returning to its roots, presenting world-class artistic performances with an authentic Saudi spirit, as the number of artistic performances in Saudi Arabia increases significantly.
On a stage in Riyadh, enchanting artistic scenes are embodied, blending past and present, art and authenticity. Horsemen wearing shemaghs galloping on their horses, dancers in traditional costumes, and women in black veils all present contemporary performances inspired by the rich local heritage. Saudi Arabia’s artistic performances are witnessing significant development, attracting tourists from around the world.
“Tarhal” is a prime example of this new trend. Combining traditional arts with modern technologies, the show utilizes lighting and sound effects. It offers an artistic journey through time, significantly enriching the art experience in Saudi Arabia.
The show tells the story of a young Saudi man, Saad, who discovers his country’s diverse culture while traveling through different regions. More than 100 performers, half of whom are Saudi, participate in the production, dancing to Saudi songs and wearing traditional costumes. Such performances contribute to enhancing the global profile of Saudi art.
This transformation in the entertainment landscape is part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which seeks to diversify sources of income and strengthen the tourism and arts sectors. Once prohibited, musical and dance performances have become a destination for arts and culture, presenting a new face to the world that blends development with the preservation of authentic identity.
