A strong start to the fifth round of the Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Dubai.

Sharjah Self-Defense Sports takes the lead, while Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu takes second place.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The fifth round of the second edition of the Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship “Without Suit” kicked off today, Saturday. The tournament is being held at Al Nasr Club in Dubai. There is wide participation from jiu-jitsu players from various clubs and academies across the country.

The first day witnessed strong competition in the under-12, under-14, and under-16 categories. The players displayed high technical levels, demonstrated quick thinking, and the ability to execute precise techniques. The players collected the highest number of points within the tournament’s classification system. This system aims to promote equal opportunities and instill a spirit of competitiveness among players and clubs. The tournament concludes tomorrow with competitions for the under-18, senior, and masters categories.

First day competitions

The first day’s competitions were attended by His Excellency Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation. His Excellency Mishal Julfar, CEO of the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, was present. Fawzia Mohammed Faridoon, Acting Director of the Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, also attended. Amina Ahmed, Manager of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank branch in Muhaisnah, was there. Fahad Al Marzouqi, Manager of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank branch in Deira, attended as well. Dr. Younis Kazim, CEO of the Dubai Healthcare Corporation at the Dubai Health Authority, was present. Mansour Al Malik, Executive Director of the Policy and Legislation Sector at Dubai Customs, attended. Dr. Shamsa Bin Hammad, Director of the Medical Affairs Department at the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, was there. Walid Al Shaibani, Director of the Dubai Municipality Club, also attended.

At the conclusion of the first day’s competition, Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club topped the overall standings. Al Ain Jiu-Jitsu Club came in second, and ADMA Academy came in third.

His Excellency Yousef Abdullah Al Batran, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, emphasized that the championship is an important platform for discovering and honing talent across all age groups. He said, “The Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Jiu-Jitsu Championship provides players with an ideal opportunity to develop their skills in a professional, competitive environment. It also instills in them the values of discipline, self-confidence, and commitment. We are confident that the players will give their best in this championship, which bears a name dear to hearts. This will contribute to enhancing the level of competition and achieving the championship’s objectives.”

The importance of Jiu-Jitsu

His Excellency Mishal Julfar, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, said: “We are delighted to be present today at this major event. It is no secret how important jiu-jitsu is and its many benefits in giving players self-confidence, determination, and perseverance. In addition to its various physical benefits, today we witnessed this large crowd and high-level organization. This reflects the popularity of the game and the interest it enjoys across the country.” Javed Mohammad Zadeh, father of Javed Mohammad Zadeh, a Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club player participating in the tournament in the under-16, 60 kg category, said: “Javad has been practicing jiu-jitsu for many years. He chose it himself and loves it very much. He spends a lot of time training. Participating in an important tournament like this will give him a lot. It will give him the opportunity to compete with players of different levels.”
