Dubai, UAE – The Ministry of Economy and Tourism announced the organization of the first session of the “Global Forum for Digital Trade and Digital Platforms”, in cooperation with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law “UNCITRAL”, on December 8 and 9 in Dubai.
This is with the aim of enhancing the benefit of Federal Decree-Law No. (14) of 2023 regarding trade through modern technology.
In addition to being guided by the Emirati experience in developing this law as part of a global initiative to develop a new legal model for digital commerce and digital platforms.
The organization of this international event comes after the UAE submitted to UNCITRAL a proposal to adopt the UAE Law on Trade through Modern Technology as a legislative model for digital trade and digital platforms.
The proposal was widely welcomed by a number of UNCITRAL member states, and Spain joined the proposal.
The UAE achieved global leadership as the first country to issue legislation regulating trade using modern technology.
Including digital commerce and digital platforms.
The forum is expected to witness broad international participation, with the attendance of more than 15 international institutions, international technical teams, and global universities concerned with digital commerce and digital platforms.
They represent a diverse spectrum of government agencies and international organizations concerned with commercial and digital legislation.
Along with an elite group of legal experts and innovators in the private sector.
The event will also feature senior executives, owners of global digital platforms, and leading technology companies.
Making it an integrated interactive space that brings together policymakers, practitioners and experts.
These include the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development “UNCTAD”, the Hague Conference on Private International Law HCCH, and the European Legal Institute.
In addition to technical teams specialized in e-commerce from Spain, China, Mexico, Singapore, Thailand, and others.
This diversity of attendance provides a unique platform for exchanging opinions and experiences, and researching international best practices.
In addition to building global consensus on the future of economic legislation to regulate trade, in light of the increasing use of modern technology in this vital sector.
