Japan – A powerful earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck eastern Hokkaido Island in northern Japan this morning. This caused concern among residents and prompted authorities to raise their alert level and closely monitor the situation.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported that the earthquake occurred at a moderate depth below the sea surface. It was clearly felt in several coastal cities, but no immediate tsunami warnings were issued.

Local media reported that the tremor caused buildings to shake and caused temporary power outages in some areas. Emergency teams are working to assess potential damage and ensure the safety of residents.

Japanese authorities confirmed that they are continuing to monitor seismic activity in the area. They also warned of the possibility of aftershocks in the coming hours, given the ongoing seismic activity. The country is located on the so-called “Ring of Fire” in the Pacific Ocean.
