American club Inter Miami announced on Thursday the renewal of Argentine star Lionel Messi’s contract until 2028.
Argentine star Lionel Messi joined the American team in the summer of 2023 on a free transfer. This move came after two years with Paris Saint-Germain.
The American club announced on its website that Lionel Messi signed a three-year contract, until 2028.
However, the American club, Inter Miami, did not reveal any financial details regarding his contract renewal.
Messi’s first comment after renewing his contract with Inter Miami
Argentine star Lionel Messi expressed his happiness at renewing his contract with Inter Miami, stressing that his continued presence with the team means a lot to him. He said, “I am very happy to continue this project that has turned from a dream into a beautiful reality, and playing in this stadium, Miami Freedom Park, gives me a special feeling. Since arriving in Miami, I have felt very happy, and that is why I am proud to continue here.”
“We are all very excited for the moment when we will finally be able to play at Miami Freedom Park,” Messi added. “We can’t wait for it to be completed so we can experience it from within, in our new home. It’s for the fans to enjoy it too. It will be very special to play at home in such a magnificent stadium,” he said. He was speaking from the site of the new stadium.
Inter Miami CF general manager Jorge Mas comments on Messi’s contract renewal
Inter Miami CF General Manager Jorge Mas said, “We promised our fans that we would dream big and build a special club. A club that embodies the passion, hard work, and dedication of all those who came before us to build a Miami built on dreams.”
He added, “Leo’s signing through 2028 is a tribute to our great city. We are very much looking forward to writing new chapters at our home stadium. Miami Freedom Park is the place. Together, we will continue to build and dream.”
According to ESPN, Inter Miami is leveraging the fame of Argentine player Lionel Messi to promote the brand of its new stadium, which is scheduled to be completed and opened in 2026.
The 38-year-old Argentine star played 82 matches for Inter Miami. He scored 71 goals and provided 36 assists.
He won two titles with the American club: the League Cup and the Fans’ Shield.
