Damascus, Syria – The Syrian Telecommunications Company announced on Tuesday, October 21, that a number of international radars went out of service due to a sudden light failure. This caused a temporary reduction in internet packages provided to users in Syria.

Highlights
  • Deterioration of infrastructure due to war
  • Communications is the cornerstone of digital transformation.

The company stated in an official statement posted on its Facebook page that specialized maintenance workshops immediately began working to address the technical glitch, noting that service will be restored to normal as soon as possible.

Deterioration of infrastructure due to war

This outage comes amid a difficult reality facing the telecommunications sector in Syria. It was severely damaged by the war waged by the former regime against the Syrian people. This led to a decline in the level of services and significant losses to infrastructure, both at the level of landline networks and international gateways.

Despite this, the Ministry of Communications and Technology continues to work to develop and modernize this vital sector. These efforts are being implemented through projects aimed at improving the quality of services. It also seeks to expand the digital infrastructure, attract investments, and introduce new technologies that meet international standards.

Communications is the cornerstone of digital transformation.

Within the framework of Syria’s new vision, communications and information technology services are a pivotal part of the institutional and digital transformation process. The country seeks to integrate into the global digital economy. It also seeks to provide modern services that contribute to sustainable growth that serves the citizen first and places the country on the global technology map.

The ministry emphasized that improvements are ongoing, and that the emergency breakdowns, despite their temporary impact, will not slow the sector’s comprehensive reform and development. This will constitute one of the pillars of Syria’s future infrastructure.
