PARIS, France – Tourists in the French capital, Paris, were left frustrated and dismayed after the Louvre Museum closed its doors to visitors, following what local media described as the “theft of the century.”

French reports indicated that the museum’s administration decided to temporarily suspend visits. This came after discovering the disappearance of a number of rare artworks, an incident that shook cultural and tourism circles around the world.

Large numbers of tourists gathered at the museum’s gates to express their anger at the sudden closure, especially after some had traveled long distances to see the Mona Lisa and the museum’s most famous exhibits.

French authorities are currently reviewing surveillance cameras, while official secrecy remains over the details of the investigation. A security source confirmed that police are treating the incident as a “highly professional, organized robbery.”
