Ilocos Norte, Philippines – A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the northern province of Ilocos Norte this morning, the Philippine Geological Survey (PHS) said.

The authority explained in its statement that the earthquake’s epicenter was recorded at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers below the Earth’s surface. It was felt by residents of the northern provinces and coastal areas, with no significant human or material losses recorded so far.

No tsunami warnings and ongoing monitoring for aftershocks

Local authorities confirmed that emergency teams were on low alert for possible aftershocks, noting that there were no indications of a tsunami threat at this time.

Rescue and field monitoring teams have also begun inspecting vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and schools to ensure they are safe following the earthquake.
