Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian presidency announced the holding of an international summit titled “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit” in Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday.
The summit will be held under the co-chairmanship of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his American counterpart Donald Trump. Leaders of more than 20 countries will participate.
The Egyptian presidency explained in a statement on Saturday evening that the summit aims to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
It aims to strengthen efforts to bring peace and stability to the Middle East region. The goal is to open a new page of regional security and stability.
She also added that this summit comes in light of US President Donald Trump’s vision to achieve peace in the region. Additionally, his tireless efforts aim to end conflicts around the world.
European countries at the summit
For its part, the US State Department reported that Washington had invited a large number of countries to attend the Sharm El-Sheikh summit.
The French presidency announced President Emmanuel Macron’s participation in the summit, according to Agence France-Presse.
The governments of Spain and Italy also confirmed the participation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni will also participate.
British statement
In turn, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced his attendance at the international summit on Gaza. He intends to sign an agreement to end the war between Israel and Hamas.
A statement issued by Downing Street said, “The Prime Minister will head to Egypt to attend the Sharm El-Sheikh peace summit on Monday”.
Which is held under the joint presidency of the Egyptian and American presidents.
The statement also added that Starmer “will attend the signing ceremony of the peace plan on Gaza. This represents a historic turning point for the region after two years of conflict”.
Discussing the future of the Gaza Strip
Trump said in press statements on Friday that he would meet in Egypt on Monday with “many leaders”. They plan to discuss the future of the Gaza Strip. This meeting follows a speech before the Israeli Knesset during his visit to Israel before coming to Egypt.
For their part, the Egyptian and American foreign ministers discussed in a phone call on Friday the arrangements for holding the international meeting.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that Badr Abdel Aati and Marco Rubio discussed in their call “arrangements for implementing the first phase of the agreement” between Israel and Hamas.
The summit comes in preparation for implementing the agreement to end the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. This agreement was signed with Egyptian, Qatari and American mediation.
It includes an exchange of Israeli hostages and Palestinian detainees. Additionally, a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip after two years of devastating war is planned.
