Algeria, Algeria – Press reports revealed on Monday that the Court of Arbitration for Sport accepted the complaint filed by the Senegalese Federation against the decision of the Appeals Committee of the Confederation of African Football, which stipulates awarding the title of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations to the Moroccan national team after withdrawing it from Senegal.
According to the Algerian newspaper “Al-Shorouk”, the court took a precautionary measure by suspending the implementation of the Appeals Committee’s decision until the final ruling is issued, which means that the title remains legally suspended without an official resolution so far.
The newspaper added that the case is expected to take between 6 and 9 months to issue a final ruling, as the court will hear from all parties involved, namely Senegal, Morocco and the African Football Confederation.
The Appeals Committee of the African Football Confederation had decided to uphold the victory of the Moroccan national team over its Senegalese counterpart with a score of 3-0 in the final match, in accordance with Article 84 of the tournament regulations, on the grounds that the Senegalese national team had violated the regulations during the match.
