Santos, Brazil – Brazilian football legend Neymar da Silva, star of Santos FC, has revealed his potential retirement date, indicating his desire to participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Neymar has only played one game for Santos this season, in which he played for 45 minutes and provided one assist.
Neymar, in statements reported by the Turkish newspaper Fanatik, said about his future: “This year is very important, not only for Santos, but also for Brazil, as we have the World Cup coming up, which is a big challenge for me”.
He added: “I wanted to play at my full potential this season, so I missed some matches”.
Neymar responded to the criticism directed at him, saying: “There are many who talk about me without knowing anything about my daily life. I have returned safe and sound, and I performed well in the last match. But I still need more rhythm, and I will improve gradually”.
Neymar explained his retirement plan, saying: “I might want to retire in December 2026. But the decision has to come from the heart, and I’m taking it one day at a time”.
