Cairo, Egypt – Al Ahly SC of Egypt revealed why it did not file a complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against FAR Rabat. This came in the wake of events that occurred during the two teams’ match in the CAF Champions League in Morocco.
Al Ahly stated in an official statement that, while reserving the right of all clubs to take appropriate action before the relevant authorities, following the events of the first match held at Prince Moulay Hassan Stadium on November 28, 2025, during which some of its players were injured and threatened as a result of objects being thrown onto the pitch, the club chose not to file a formal complaint against FAR Rabat. The club opted instead to submit some observations to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to contribute to the success of continental competitions.
Al Ahly: We refused to file a complaint with the African Union out of concern for the good relations between the two clubs
The statement emphasized that this decision stemmed from a desire to maintain the strong relationship between the two clubs, which Al Ahly considers more important than the outcome of a football match. The statement also noted that Al Ahly was keen to ensure the Royal Army Club delegation received a reception in Cairo befitting the stature of both clubs and the excellent relationship with Moroccan fans.
He added that some Raja Casablanca fans attempted to storm the adjacent Al Ahly supporters’ section and the pitch during yesterday’s match. However, security forces intervened to ensure everyone’s safety.
Al Ahly added that the actions of some fans during both the first and second leg matches provoked negative reactions from a small minority of its supporters. These reactions included throwing water bottles onto the pitch, an act the club categorically rejects, regardless of the motives. This statement reaffirms the club’s commitment to sportsmanship and its desire to maintain strong relations with its Moroccan counterparts.
The club explained that it had contacted the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and presented the disciplinary committee with a full account, supported by video footage. It emphasized that this incident was the first of its kind involving some of its fans. The club reiterated its complete rejection of such behavior, both in form and substance, while stressing that its relationship with its Moroccan counterparts would remain strong and unwavering.
The match between the two teams, which took place yesterday, Sunday, ended in a goalless draw and was marred by some disturbances in the stands. Raja Casablanca has filed an official complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) condemning the incidents and describing them as unsportsmanlike conduct.
