Lusaka, Zambia – Zamalek suffered a defeat against their Zambian hosts Zesco United by a score of 1-0, in the match that brought the two teams together today, Sunday, at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, as part of the fifth round of the group stage of the African Confederation Cup.
The only goal of the match came in the 61st minute through Amine Hever from a penalty kick, after the referee had previously cancelled a Zesco goal due to offside.
Despite Zamalek’s attempts to equalize, most notably the chances of Oday Al-Dabbagh and Hossam Abdel-Maguid in the final minutes, the match ended with a Zesco victory, postponing the Whites’ decision on the top spot in the group until the final round.
With that result, Zamalek’s tally remained frozen at 8 points in second place, while Zesco United came in last place with 3 points achieved from their first win in the group.
The loss postpones Zamalek’s qualification for the Confederation Cup quarter-finals until the final round.
