Rabat, Morocco – The Moroccan Football Federation announced on Tuesday that it has filed an official appeal against the decisions of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the sanctions issued in connection with the events of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final.
The Moroccan Federation said in an official statement that it had reviewed the rulings issued by the Disciplinary Committee of the Confederation of African Football, which the Royal Moroccan Football Federation recently received, regarding the events that accompanied the final match that brought together, on Sunday, January 18, 2026, the Moroccan national team and its Senegalese counterpart.
The statement explained that the match was marked by the withdrawal of the Senegalese national team’s players and coaching staff, as well as their fans invading the pitch, resulting in chaos and rioting.
The Moroccan Football Federation added: “Given that the sanctions issued by the Disciplinary Committee are disproportionate to the gravity and seriousness of these events, and in order to safeguard all rights guaranteed by law, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation has decided to file a formal appeal against these rulings.” It noted that an official letter regarding this matter has been sent to the President of the Confederation of African Football.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) had imposed severe sanctions on the Moroccan and Senegalese national teams following the events that occurred during the Africa Cup of Nations final.
