Cairo, Egypt – The eighth and final round of the Champions League witnessed exciting results, as Liverpool thrashed Qarabag 6-0, while Real Madrid suffered a surprise defeat against Benfica of Portugal.
Liverpool achieved a resounding 6-0 victory over Qarabag in the match that brought them together at Anfield Stadium.
Liverpool’s goals were scored by Alexis Mac Allister (two goals), Florian Wirtz, Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekiteke and Federico Chiesa, in the 15th, 21st, 50th, 57th, 61st and 90th minutes respectively.
The victory secured Liverpool’s direct qualification to the round of 16 of the Champions League, after they finished the league stage in third place.
Manchester City vs Galatasaray
In another match, Manchester City beat Galatasaray of Turkey 2-0 in a game played at the Etihad Stadium.
City’s two goals were scored by Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki in the 11th and 29th minutes.
Manchester City increased their points tally to 16, securing direct qualification to the round of 16.
Barcelona vs Copenhagen
Barcelona thrashed Copenhagen 4-1 in a match played at the “Spotify Camp Nou” stadium.
Barcelona’s four goals were scored by Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, Rafinha and Marcus Rashford, in the 48th, 60th, 69th and 85th minutes. Victor Dadasson scored Copenhagen’s only goal in the fourth minute.
Barcelona raised their tally to 16 points in fifth place, securing their qualification for the round of 16.
Benfica vs Real Madrid
In a major upset, Portuguese side Benfica achieved a resounding 4-2 victory over their visitors Real Madrid in the match held at the “Da Luz” stadium.
The victory denied Real Madrid direct qualification to the round of 16, forcing them into the play-offs. Benfica, meanwhile, secured their place in the next round via the play-offs.
