Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Belgian Thibaut Courtois, Real Madrid’s goalkeeper, expressed his sadness after his team’s loss to Barcelona by a score of (3-2) in the Spanish Super Cup final.
Courtois said in post-match comments: “We deserved to win in the second half. We could have easily sealed the match. But we were too cautious in the first half”.
He added: “Losing to our rivals in the final is very upsetting. We are certainly sad, but we have to turn the page and quickly get back to preparing for the Cup and League competitions”.
The Real Madrid goalkeeper continued: “We showed that we are a strong and cohesive team, but some small details decided the match. The first goal came after a mistake, the second hit the post before going in, and the third hit one of the players, and these are things that change the course of the match”.
Courtois pointed to Vinicius Junior, saying: “We didn’t take advantage of the great version of Vinicius today. He was a major nuisance to Barcelona’s defense and scored a remarkable goal. We trust in his abilities. We know he is capable of deciding matches”.
He concluded: “We created many opportunities, but luck wasn’t on our side. The ball just didn’t want to go into the net, and that sums up what happened in the match”.
