Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – Real Madrid qualified for the final of the Spanish Super Cup, after defeating their neighbor Atletico Madrid 2-1 in the match that brought them together on Thursday evening.
Real Madrid faced Atlético Madrid at the Al-Inma Stadium in Saudi Arabia in the semi-finals of the Spanish Super Cup.
Real Madrid started the match strongly, surprising their rivals Atletico with an early goal in the second minute, after Federico Valverde unleashed a rocket shot from a direct free kick that nestled into the goalkeeper’s net.
In the second half, Real Madrid extended their lead with a second goal in the 55th minute, scored by Rodrygo. He capitalized on a brilliant pass from Valverde, dribbled past an Atlético defender, and slotted the ball into the net.
Atletico Madrid quickly narrowed the gap in the 58th minute when striker Alexander Sørloth scored his team’s only goal. He headed in a cross from Giuliano Simeone, beating goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Atletico almost equalized in the dying moments, after Julian Alvarez missed a clear chance in the 96th minute with a dangerous low shot that went just wide of the post.
The match ended with Real Madrid winning (2-1), thus securing their place in the final of the Spanish Super Cup.
