Kuwait – Paris Saint-Germain won the French Super Cup title after defeating their rivals Olympique Marseille 4-1 on penalties, following a 2-2 draw at the end of regulation time.
Paris Saint-Germain faced Olympique de Marseille at Jaber Al-Ahmad Stadium in Kuwait City, Kuwait, in the French Super Cup final.
Paris Saint-Germain started the match strongly and succeeded in opening the scoring early in the 12th minute, through Ousmane Dembele, who went one-on-one with the goalkeeper and fired a powerful shot that found the back of the net of the Olympique Marseille goalkeeper.
The French capital team almost extended their lead in the 19th minute, after Nuno Mendes unleashed a powerful shot, but the Marseille goalkeeper successfully saved it.
In contrast, Lucas Chevalier, the Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper, saved his team from a certain goal, after he blocked a dangerous opportunity for Marseille in the 33rd minute, ending the first half with Paris Saint-Germain leading by one goal.
In the second half, Olympique Marseille managed to get back into the game after they were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute, which Mason Greenwood successfully converted, scoring the equalizer.
Minutes before the end of the match, Marseille surprised their opponent by adding a second goal in the 87th minute, following a cross from the left side, which Paris Saint-Germain defender Willian Batshua accidentally turned into his own net.
As Olympique Marseille prepared to celebrate winning the French Super Cup for the first time since 2011, Paris Saint-Germain launched a quick counter-attack in the dying moments, during which substitute Gonzalo Ramos managed to score the equalizer in the 95th minute, just seven minutes after coming on.
The two teams then immediately resorted to penalty kicks, which smiled on Paris Saint-Germain, after its players succeeded in scoring all of their kicks, while Olympique Marseille players missed two kicks and only managed to score one.
