Cairo, Egypt – Press reports revealed on Wednesday that French coach Hervé Renard, manager of the Saudi national team, is close to leaving the “Green Falcons.” This comes after their failure to qualify for the Arab Cup final.
The Saudi national team exited the Arab Cup tournament in the semi-finals after losing to Jordan by one goal to nil.
According to the Saudi newspaper “Al-Riyadh”, there is a trend on the part of the Saudi Football Federation to dismiss Hervé Renard, the coach of the national team.
She added that a replacement coach will be sought before preparing for participation in the 2026 World Cup finals. The tournament will be held in America, Canada and Mexico.
She indicated that the choice would likely be between one of the coaches in the Saudi Professional League, or perhaps a new coach, making his debut in the Kingdom, would be selected. The coach would need to meet the expectations of both the fans and officials in the Kingdom.
The French coach’s (57 years old) contract with the Green team extends until the 2027 Asian Cup finals.
Renard commented on the possibility of being dismissed, saying: “I have a contract and I will continue my work. I can’t do something if someone wants to do something else.” He added: “I’m staying, but if someone tells me my job is done, I’ll go somewhere else. That’s football.”
