Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian Football Association sent an official letter to FIFA, requesting that no activities or events of a controversial nature be organized during the match between the Egyptian national team and Iran, scheduled to be held in Seattle, USA, on June 26, 2026, as part of the third round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
The letter added that the federation based its request on the principles of the FIFA Statutes, particularly the articles stipulating the need to maintain neutrality in political and social matters, and not to use football competitions as a platform for debates or controversial issues that may distract from the sporting aspect.
The Egyptian Federation also cited FIFA’s regulations governing events and the disciplinary code, which emphasize the importance of avoiding anything that could incite tension or misunderstanding between the fans of participating countries, while stressing the need to respect the cultural and religious particularities of different peoples.
The Egyptian Football Association concluded its statement by emphasizing that its request stems from a desire to organize a match that reflects the true image of football as a means of bringing people together, and called for the game to be held in a purely competitive atmosphere that ensures enjoyment for the fans, free from any factors that might spark controversy.
