Cairo, Egypt – The board of directors of the Egyptian Zamalek club decided to file an official complaint with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) against the refereeing team of their match against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs.

Zamalek fell into the trap of a draw against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs, with each team scoring one goal, in the second round of the Confederation Cup.

Zamalek explained in its statement that this complaint comes after the refereeing errors witnessed in the team’s match against South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs by the Rwandan refereeing team led by Samuel Uykunda.

Zamalek Club asserts in its complaint that refereeing errors in this match affected the final result. They maintain that the team deserved a penalty kick for a foul on Angolan player Chico Banza, in addition to the unjustified cancellation of a legitimate goal by Tunisian player Seifeddine Jaziri, for reasons clear to anyone who watched the match. Furthermore, the club alleges that the referee excessively issued yellow cards to Zamalek players throughout the game.

Zamalek, in its complaint to CAF, demands the need to intervene and select appropriate referees to reduce the phenomenon of refereeing errors that affect the results of many matches in the tournament.

The Egyptian club is also urgently requesting that CAF implement Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology in upcoming matches, starting with the third round of the group stage. The club’s management believes the absence of VAR compromises the integrity of the competition. They argue that it is time to take decisive action to reform the refereeing system across African tournaments, including the Confederation Cup.
