Cairo, Egypt – English press reports revealed on Friday surprising developments in Real Madrid’s stance regarding the signing of Ibrahima Konate, the Liverpool defender.
Ibrahima Konate’s contract with Liverpool is set to expire at the end of the current season, which means he will be free to sign for any club next January.
According to the English newspaper The Athletic, Real Madrid had wanted to sign Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer next summer. However, their stance on signing the 26-year-old has suddenly changed.
The newspaper indicated that Real Madrid informed Liverpool that they did not wish to sign the French defender of Malian origin.
The newspaper explained that Liverpool’s management strongly desires to keep Ibrahima Konate and extend his contract with the Reds, but the matter still depends on the player’s priorities and the possibility of staying at Anfield.
Ibrahima Konate has played 18 matches for Liverpool this season, including 12 in the Premier League, 5 in the Champions League, and one in the Community Shield.
During the 18 matches he played for the Reds, the French defender scored one goal and received three yellow cards.
