Cairo, Egypt – Liverpool manager Arne Slot has criticized the refereeing during his team’s match against Manchester City in the English Premier League.
Liverpool suffered a bitter defeat against Manchester City, losing 3-0 in the match that took place yesterday, Sunday, as part of the 11th round of the Premier League.
Slot told Sky Sports: “Manchester City put us under a lot of pressure, we suffered a lot in the first half and we were hoping it would end 1-0.”
He added: “There were 15 crucial minutes in the game, and instead of it being 1-1 or 2-1, the first half ended 2-0 for City.”
He continued: “The decision to disallow Virgil van Dijk’s goal was wrong. Our player didn’t interfere with play at all. I saw a goal after the game that the same referee allowed; it was Manchester City’s match against Wolverhampton last season.”
He concluded: “The assistant referee took 13 seconds to raise his flag and signal offside. Allowing the goal could have had a positive impact for us.”
He concluded: “There was contact between Mamardashvili and Doku, but after the contact, he was able to position his foot where he wanted.”
Slot concluded: “We shouldn’t be talking about first place. We need to focus on our performance, which needs to improve.”
Manchester City increased their points tally to 22, remaining in second place, four points behind Arsenal.
Liverpool remained on 18 points and dropped to eighth place.
