Manama, Bahrain – The UAE national basketball team achieved its second consecutive victory in the 26th edition of the Arab Men’s Championship, currently being held in the Kingdom of Bahrain, after defeating the host country 81-79 in the second round of the competition.
The UAE’s victory came in the dying moments of the match, with Khalifa Khalil scoring a decisive hat-trick in the final second, giving the team the lead in the standings with four points from two consecutive victories.
The tournament will continue until August 2, with the participation of seven teams: the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Algeria, and Tunisia. The tournament will be held in a single-round league format.
Major General Ismail Al-Qarqawi, President of the Arab Basketball Federation, congratulated the national team delegation in Manama, praising the players’ performance and high spirits, as well as the role of the technical and administrative staff in achieving this victory.
For his part, Abdul Latif Al Fardan, President of the UAE Basketball Association, affirmed his confidence in the national team’s ability to compete for the title, pointing to the trust and support the team enjoys and its ability to represent the country in an honorable manner.
In the remaining results of the second round, the defending champion, Egypt, defeated its Qatari counterpart 90-69, while the Tunisian team defeated Kuwait 86-61.
